  3. The Schiele-esque taut contortion of body, which often accompanies your subjects, is not apparent in this piece.. And it seems fittingly so, for the subject is the "perpendicular" as it relates to (if I gather the symbolism correctly) humans and their non-negotiable willingness to placidly sacrifice themselves for an idea/belief/custom. This body -- hardly contorted, twisting, writhing, seeking -- acquiesces or "straightens up" to the unbending rule of religion, even to the point of, strangely enough, resigning ones humanity and "becoming" the idea or belief itself. A sad fate..

    Amazing, transformative work Melinda :)

    MythofS:

Actually I intentioned to paint a crucifixion-like image... where the female figure is a symbolic part of the cross... As I was working on it I saw her as a plumb-line that looks down towards the abyss....I was not sure about the title of it... Maybe this isn't the best title...

  6. Oh, I see. So the cross is perpendicular to her plumb-line gaze downward, toward the abyss. In other words, she is completely beholden to the cross-like scaffolding. I can see that now.

-- She looks as if she has given up, accepting her "fate".....

  7. I like the geometric shapes you have produced here and the colors chosen producing many planes of light and dark. Very thought provoking.

  9. Very impressive painting .. I see a too heavy burden on a woman, and great suffering. This is really pretty, especially at this time that is so relentless. Pale skin emphasize how well the last drop of blood is out, just a straight fall.
